Absolute Power (1997)

ABSOLUTE POWER is a progressively implausible, though admittedly
crowd-pleasing thriller, adapted from the David Baldacci best sel-
ler by writer William Goldman and director Clint Eastwood. Mr.
Make My Day also stars as the master thief who witnesses the mur-
der-- and the resulting conspiracy to conceal said murder-- of the
President's mistress. Plot holes, convenient coincidences, and a
shaky tone are balanced by a breezy sense of humor, above-the-board
acting, and Eastwood's deliberately leisurely pacing. Just ignore
Judy Davis, who overdoes it as the President's ass-protecting Chief
of Staff. (Rated "R"/120 min.)
