Great Expectations (1998)

GREAT EXPECTATIONS has a handful of believable moments, between 
stars Ethan Hawke and Gwenyth Paltrow.  Their chemistry is about 
the only good thing in this stylish sleep-inducer from director Al-
fonso Cauron (THE LITTLE PRINCESS).  Oh, man, does the movie *look* 
good... but so did EVITA.  (Now, for the young boys planning to at-
tend, here's the low-down on the nude scenes:  Paltrow poses only 
once.  It's a charged scene, but without any nudity, per se.  After 
your hormones have cooled, you might as well leave.)  With Anne 
Bancroft, Robert DeNiro, Chris Cooper, Hank Azaria, Raquel Beaudene,
and Jeremy Kissner.  (Rated "R"/111 min.)
