WARRENTON - Southern States Farm Supply at 216 W. Franklin Street. One-story concrete block
building measuring 228 by 268 feet. Approximately 63,000 square-feet. Located just a few blocks
from fire station. First-arriving engine reporting heavy smoke on Main Street and flames visible above
buildings. Heavy fire on arrival and building soon fully-involved.
Exposures included residential neighborhood in rear, and
library building on east side. Hydrants and drop-tanks utilized, along with three aerial
streams and three ground master streams. Over 20 departments responded, including every Warren County
department, Vance County departments, and two counties in Virginia. Dispatched about 5:45 p.m. Controlled
within about three hours. First photo taken at 8:41 p.m. Last photo taken at 11:01 p.m.
Regional EMS response included Wake County EMS unit. Regional haz-mat team
responded from Raleigh Fire Department with four units. Hazards included fertilizer and stored fuel. Air and water
monitoring conducted. Nearby residents evacuated early into incident, followed by wider evacuation for
