Commercial structure fire at 4001 Beryl Road. Dispatched as fire alarm. Engine 8 arriving at a one-story brick industrial building with 22,543 squaree-feet. Built 1974. Smoke showing from roof vents. Remaining structure fire assignment and working fire assignments dispatched. Presence of hazardous materials also noted. Crews made entry and located fire(s) burning in chemical vat(s). Heavy smoke conditions inside,
requiring ventilation that included Ladder 4 to roof. Personnel withdrawn from inside, while situation was assessed. Haz-mat units also responded, to assist with evaluating situation. Dry-chemical extinguishers brought into structure, as initial extinguishing agent. Personnel also outfitted with special boots. All interior crews also decontaminated. Water run-off from inside building also contained.
Command post, rehab, personnel, and staged units moved west on Beryl Road, to be upwind of smoke.
Dispatched about 3:22 p.m. Controlled about 5:23 p.m. Crews remained on scene into the evening, with
units returning to the scene to assist with overhaul and investigation. Units on scene included E8, E5, E6, E20, L7, L4, R1, Sq14, B3, B5, A1, C20, C420, C401, C14 (safety), C5, C1, HM1, HM2, SR3, C55 (haz-mat), EMS 4, EMS 8, D1, T1. "A" platoon.
