RALEIGH - Two alarms at 4724 Courtney Lane. Two-story garden-style apartment, wood frame, with 10,978 square-feet and ten units. Built 1980. New Hope Engine 1 first-arriving, found roof fully involved. Requested second alarm on arrival. New Hope crews evacuated building, then pulled attack line and also utilized deluge gun. Engine 19 laid supply line to New Hope Engine 1, which supplied Ladder 2 operating reserve snorkel in front of building. Engine 15 laid supply line to Ladder 5, also in front of building. Defensive operations started within ten minutes or so, with both aerial streams. Two portable monitors also deployed in rear of building. Used to also help with exposure protection. Majority of fire quickly contained, and second alarm companies soon returned to service. Aerial streams also used for overhaul, as building was unsafe to enter due to volume of water affecting structural integrity. Command located in parking lot in front right corner of building. Rehab located on Courtney Lane, in front of building. Four hydrants utilized. Dispatched 12:11 a.m. Controlled 12:45 a.m. Cause determined as accidental due to lightning, from earlier severe storms. One occupant with minor burns, transported. Building entirely damaged, with four units rendered uninhabitable. Five people displaced. First alarm: E19, E27, E15, E11, L2, L5, R1, B1, B5, C420, New Hope E1; second alarm: E21, E28, E22, L1, L4, B2, A1, C401, C20, C2, C4, New Hope R6, New Hope C1. Medical: EMS 7, EMS 63, EMS 4, D4, D3, M91, T1. Relief companies: E13, E28, L3. Coverage: E13 to 19, Sq7 to 11, L3 to 22, L6 to 17, L7 to 1.
