01/24/09 93 W, 1 I - + 12 - 10 Fire Apparatus For State Highway Patrol Training Division

The Winter 2009 issue of Carolina Fire Rescue EMS Journal lists a new apparatus delivery for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Training Division. They've received a 1995 F-350/21st Century Foam quick response crash truck/brush unit. The refurbished vehicle has a disel engine, 150 GPM Darley pump, 225-gallon water tank, and a 12-gallon foam cell. The unit was delivered by 21st Century Foam. You can download a PDF version of the entire issue from the journal's web site

Can someone tell me why the NCSHP needs a brush truck?????

The vehicle is described as a “quick response crash truck” as well as a “brush unit.” The SHP training facility on Tryon Road is also home to the SHP Aviation Division. At their older hangar, a smaller building at the corner of Garner and Tryon roads, I recall seeing a standard wheeled dry-chemical extinguisher. At their newer hangar, located beside the road course, the above vehicle probably serves as a bigger “wheeled extinguisher.”

...and my apologies to SHP or others amused by my speculations, should they contain slight or gross errors.
