04/28/09 45 W, 1 I - + 15 - 21 Bay Leaf's New Pumper

Here's Bay Leaf's new Pumper 252, delivered last week and photographed by Lee Wilson yesterday. The 2009 Pierce Contender, 1250/1000, is already in service at Station 1. Old Pumper 252 has been renamed Pumper 123, and was moved to Station 3. See more photos.

Bay Leaf Members: Is this truck equipped with a combi tool and pump or is that on P258 or non existent at station 1?

So is it true blfd is getting a seagrave?
P. Diddy - 04/29/09 - 14:34

I heard that Knightdale is getting a Sutphen tower.
Eastside - 04/29/09 - 21:38

From my understanding KFD is looking at 3 used, late model aerials. A Sutphen mid-mount, a Pierce rear-mount and a KME rear-mount, and a decision has not been made yet. This is part of a grant that they received.

Yes, this truck is equipped with a combi-tool, pump, and a set of rams. The truck is the rescue pumper that responds out of Station 1.

Any specific reason the roll up doors were not painted red or why they chose the roll up doors in lieu of the traditional metal doors?

I believe the other county spec Pierce trucks at Bay Leaf have the painted traditional doors but not sure.

Just curious.
Buckwheat - 04/30/09 - 20:27

The other trucks have traditional doors to accomodate a drop tank if needed, drop tank storage is not possible with roll up doors. They are rotated to from time to time from being 1st out duty crew apparatus in an attempt to balance out mileage, etc.

If I read that last statement correctly does that mean that this truck does not have a drop tank? Isn’t a majority of Bayleaf’s district nonhydranted?
Hold on... - 05/01/09 - 11:45

Thanks for the info Bay Leaf nice to know what resources you’ve got.
Extrication - 05/01/09 - 15:17

“Hold on….” Drop tanks are carried on Tankers, not Initial Attack Pumpers. Bay Leaf has multiple tankers with drop tanks.
Mike - 05/01/09 - 16:56

All are pumper-tankers, except the new 252, because it doesn’t have a jet dump. Each Station has a tanker with a drop tank. 122, 258, 366 are designated as tankers, they carry drop tanks. 123 and 252 are designated as Rescue Pumpers/Engines (whatever you want to call them) they respond to MVA’s. 121, 251, and 361 are set up as 1st due Pumpers/Engines and do not carry drop tanks.
AB - 05/01/09 - 18:18

So help me understand this, 252 has no jet dump and no drop tank? is that right. another question, how many gallons does the trucks tank hold?
AD - 05/01/09 - 21:51

Correct on 252, and all Bay Leaf Contenders are 1000 gallon tanks.
