07/27/09 85 W, 1 I - + 10 - 11 Wall with Door

Retroactively reporting from the road-- Mr. Blogger returned this afternoon-- here's a noise barrier in Baltimore, on a section of toll road. The door is a portal for fire apparatus, presumably to improve response times. That section of roadway only has a handful of entrance ramps. There's also an electronic sign board overhead and, some yards prior, a familiar yellow "firehouse ahead" sign. Yup, we're easily amused. Just call me Rube.

And what’s on the other side? Google Street View reveals what’s behind door number one, via Old Riverside Road: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=baltimore+..

That is indeed a better view! Thanks for posting. Memo to self, investigate that map site, ASAP.

Reminds me of the section off I-440 at Meredith College.

Here’s a bit of info. of mine about Reedy Creek Road, http://www.legeros.com/hidden-raleigh/ro..

And one anecdote. There was and maybe still is a brand of paper street maps that included fire stations among their many landmarks. The brand name escapes me. Their street map of Raleigh included a fire station at the approximate location of old Reedy Creek Road and the Beltline. Why? Never found an answer, nor readily recall any references to planned stations at that location. It has bugged me for years.

Here is a tunnel you do not have listed on your Hidden Raleigh page.

Used by NC State mostly.
