Mike,
Just for giggles… Since you go to so many of the area public safety days, fire prevention events, open houses, carnivals, fairs, suppers, etc., which ones did you enjoy the most? And which ones had the most public support/participation?

Which were the most fun? That’s a tricky question, really, ‘cause I am kinda sorta on assignment at these things. The lone lark, if you will, was the Micro Fireman’s Carnival. And that was great fun. It was at night, so that damn hot sun was down. There was local color and then some. There was a good band. And dancing, too. Night shooting made the thing more difficult, but pleasantly challengingly so.

Fun is a relative concept. If there’s good lighting, interesting things or people to shoot, and maybe some folks that I know, then I’m a happy camper. I am told that life is even more fun when experienced without a camera. I plan to test that theory some time.

That said, another absolute treat was downtown Warrenton, with a seemingly endless parade of apparatus passing with their sirens and horns on high.

Calculating public support and participation is trickier. Garner’s looked like it was starting well, and Morrisville’s looked like it ended well. Cary’s event seemed to have a steady stream of kids, though they weren’t swamped with wee ones. And maybe that’s a good thing? Their combat challenge course takes a few minutes per-child to complete. Bay Leaf’s open house had good a crowd, too. Same for Durham Highway a couple weeks ago. Warrenton’s event had a LOT of people last week, but maybe they were mostly FFs and their families?
