Downtown Raleigh was wide-open if under-attended on Saturday night when this photo of Ladder 2 at the corner of Davie and Fayetteville streets. The fire department bike team was there, too, and sporting their nifty new uniforms. Pictures of those are coming soon. Always more pictures.

Mike, Did you get curious as to why we (E16) pulled out behind you to head downtown to be in the parade but you never saw us in it? I find it interesting and feel that others may also to the reason behind that. We were supposed to be in the parade and were even staged. When it was our turn a city engineer ran up and stopped us. He advised we couldn’t participate due to the fact that the new section of Fayetteville St. was only designed to support 15 tons and since our truck exceeded the weight limit we ran the risk of falling through to the parking deck below! I find it extremely hard to believe the city would design and construct a road that is supposed to be the city’s flagship and you can’t even put a fire engine on it but that’s what the man said and, yes, he showed id.
