02/26/10 130 W, 1 I - + 6 - 13 Yesterday's House Fire / South East Street

As this NBC17 story reports, yesterday afternoon's house fire at 527 S. East Street prompted a pre-arrival assist from neighbors and passers-by, who rescued two people from the two-story structure. They grabbed and ladder and helped a woman down who had escaped to a first-floor (?) roof from the smoke-filled second story. Another person rescued a wheelchair-bound man from the porch. He was transported for evaluation. Engines 1, 13, 2, 5, Ladder 4, Rescue 3, Battalion 2 (command), Car 10, Car 20, Air 1, EMS 2, EMS 1, EMS 55, Medic 94, and District 1 (first arriving) responded. It was dispatched about 4:42 p.m. The fire started in a bed in an upstairs room, report investigators. Read a second account on WTVD, which include aerial and ground photos. The 2,944 square-foot, wood-frame structure was built in 1920, say tax records.

noticed in channel 11’s coverage that ladder 4 is operating the reserve platform. how much damage did the alf ladder sustain in it’s recent crash, and when will the new tiller be arriving in raleigh?

Charlie, the ALF didnt sustain any major damage in the wreck with the SUV. There was a concern about some metal on metal rubbing coming from one of the outriggers, so they pulled it from service to be safe.

As for the new Tiller…different rumor mills have different delivery dates…anytime from Now till October is a good bet to go on.
