As found on Statter911, in a slideshow from FOX8, here's a viewer photo of the truck that was struck by the passenger train in Mebane. That low-boy load was about the worst obstruction possible. Credit Fox Community Member JFair.

Two Words that should be on the drivers test. Operation Lifesaver! And common sense for this photographer would have been call 911 first and then take the pic maybe could have made a difference if there was a couple mins between the stuck low-boy and train . Wonder if anyone called 911 on this before it happened? This should have been avoided due to just this pic for sure 3 people could have called 911. The driver first then the person in the car behind the low-boy and then the person taking the photo. Just my two cents.

How quickly can a train get notified from a 911 call, anyway?
Ring Ring - 05/15/10 - 16:17

Well…from the time the caller calls, it rings, routes to the closest 911 center, operator answers and get key questions answered, determines who needs to be notified (FD, PD, Amtrak, CSX, NS) and assuming that all are notified at the same time…5 minutes best. Then the dispatch center at the train station unually talks to the trains on the route and locks them down while we are on the phone with them, so not to bad as far as some other communication links. 10 mins tops I would say…but I may not know much…

What we don’t know is the time lapse from time the pic was taken until the train struck the trailer. Was there time to stop the train??? Best case is the truck driver paid attention to the warning and this would not have happened….. Stupid people = job security

I enlarged the pic. It appears that a red RR crossing signal is flashing, and train is upon the crossing.

Wondering why the driver is out of the cab of the truck? Maybe trying to unhook the tralier probally so.
