07/05/10 46 W, 1 I - + 5 - 6 New Cruiser Style?

Seen at the State Fairgrounds last night: a pair of Raleigh Police Department sport-utility vehicles, sporting black hubcaps instead of silver. Is this a new style for city police cruisers? Looks kinda cool. Very urban.

They’re used for SEU (SWAT team), and I think K9. Those that carry around a lot of extra “stuff”.

City of New Bern PD has a new police tahoe they use for traffic enforcement prett bad $%# looking vehicle even has one of those rumbler sirens on it. But I always thought when the crown vics would lose hub caps it made the cars look cooler all black around the wheel

rfburns is correct. “Specialized” units such as SRT/K9/D&V use the SUVs.

To me, black rims “set it off” as being more aggressive and tactical, less “parade-ready”. Friend of mine is a Jersey state trooper, has an unmarked black crown vic, limo tint, and black “go to hell” rims…..frickin’ sweet!

Looks great. Glad to see the door pillar spot light. Would look better with blue bumpers rather silver. Does the tailgate have “POLICE” across the back?

Awesome looking vehicle. Glad too see Raleigh not conforming to the standard single colored police vehicles.

“very urban”? Nah, add 18” wheels, billet grill, ground effects…THAT would be urban. But these do look pretty good. I have to agree that the blue bumpers would look better, as wood something other than blank wheels (hey, I’, a product of big chrome bumpers, fins, and chrome hubcaps). Hey, chrome ‘baby moons’ would at a, well, unusual look….

Here are some pics front and rear. No "POLICE" across the back of this one.

Black is the new chrome. I hate chrome. I was glad when Ford went to grey wheel covers on the CVs a couple years ago. All Chargers come with black steel wheels with the Police Package having the option of “chrome” plastic true hubcaps (only the hub and lugs) or the aluminum-look 5-spoke wheel covers. If I’m not mistaken, most or all of the SHP’s Police Package Tahoes have black wheels, too. It’s part of the Police Package. Either way, those Tahoes do look pretty sweet, as long as they’re not in my rearview mirror!

Why don’t you put some curb finders on there as well?
HAHA - 07/08/10 - 22:27

This is a K9 vehicle. These are not new.
