08/12/10 89 W, 2 I - + 4 - 6 Deuces are Wild

Lee Wilson has posted pictures of some of the apparatus that was loaded into the Raleigh Convention Center yesterday for the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo. Looks like a set of "deuce and a half" conversions are going to be displayed. How cool is that? Can you identify the departments? He also took some pictures on the show floor. See you there Friday. History workshop at 9:00 a.m. Hit the exhibit floor toward lunch time. See more from Mr. Wilson.

That Queheel truck is something! It looks like they built it to avoid having to call the Forestry plow…

I believe that’s a “brush breaker” style of truck, that’s seen in the northeast, among other places.

Cool. Deuce and a halfs making a comeback. You used to find them EVERYWHERE. I remember them at Apex, Durham Highway (later Falls), Morrisville, Yrac, Knightdale, Wendell, Roelsville, Holly Springs, Micro, and more. Some were tankers, others were pumpers. For a while there were two model 530s at RDU at the old National Guard ramp (back when Airport Road was two lane).

From what I gleaned at the show, these were all obtained through the Forest service, as part of a cooperative program that acquires assets for fire departments. Close views of the rigs, http://legeros.com/ralwake/photos/2010-0..
