08/22/10 100 W, 1 I - + 5 - 5 Last Night's House Fire in Holly Springs

And here's a picture from last night's house fire at 634 Bass Lake Road in Holly Springs, one of a couple posted by WRAL. Dispatched about 11:30 p.m. and controlled about midnight, as memory serves of the radio traffic. Engine 1 arriving at a one-story residential structure fully involved. Defensive operations, as the roof had collapsed by the time the first units arrived. Units on scene included Holly Springs E1, E2, E3, L1, R1, C2, Fairview E1, R1, EMS D2, T1. Next question, are there really bass in Bass Lake?

Can someone give some details on the occupant who came out after being inside the burning house for a good period of time? I think I heard Cmd say the homeowner had just come out and that he had been sleeping in the back bedroom. It seemed like this was at least 20-30 mins into the fire.

ok, so it wasn’t 20-30 mins, but 15+ mins.

Anyone on the scene of this one? Did that really happen? Please clarify and tell us the media has this all wrong (which is common)....

So I guess we can’t get the full story on this one, and just leave it up to assumptions.

With that being said, a friendly reminder; DON’T NEGLECT A PRIMARY!!!! Sometimes we get so zoned in on “fightin’ fire” that we forget to perform a primary search as soon as possible.

A building isn’t clear till we say that it is.
