Here's your ambulance conversion picture of the day. Where's this mobile service unit slash rolling billboard sitting? You probably pass it every day. Click to enlarge:

I’m going to guess the corner of Cedar St and Lake St in Cary. Never been there, never seen this, but a picture is worth a thousand (or two) words…

Oops, I mean Cedar and Ward. Duh.

I like the street signs on the left side of the picture, Mike.

It’s right near the old Western Wake Station that was just sold.

Correct-a-mundo. Also the intersection where the original Yrac fire station was once located, http://legeros.com/ralwake/galleryw/stat..

The question to me is what year is that old ambulance. I’m guessing 80-something model, possibly late 70’s. I sold ambulances from 1990-mid 1993 and don’t recall any dodges being used during that time and the styling of the chassis looks pretty old.

It’s about a ’75 model. There is another unit like this out on 54/Miami Blvd. in Durham, too. but I don’t think it’s a Dodge. And that bad-boy should have a 440 under the lid.

75-78 chassis, based upon the grill work. Dodge went to an entirely different grill work in 1979. Typical of Dodge and GM, there were only minor trim changes during many year models. The ambulance? Hard to tell. But as to the engine, my bet is a 360. Could be wrong, but I have never seen a Dodge II or III ambulance with anything bigger. I have seen several older Dodge type Is with the big 440.
