06/12/11 115 W, 2 I - + 7 - 1 Kernersville Fatal Apparatus Accident

WGHP is reporting that Kernersville Engine 41 was involved in a fatal vehicle accident early this afternoon. The engine was responding to a call with lights and sirens activated when an automobile reportedly pulled out from a parking lot and into the path of the apparatus. The 80-year-old driver was killed, and a passenger in the car was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The firefighters were also injured, and treated for minor injuries at Kernersville Medical Center. WGHP has also posted several photos from the scene, taken as the apparatus was being prepared for towing. Other coverage: Greensboro News-Record, WFMY.

I know that it isn’t really in your area; but there’s a currently-burning two-alarm wharehouse/buisness fire that earlier shut down Hwy 52 (the main N/S highway through Winston-Salem.) It’s on the same news websites that you got the Kernersville story from. I could see the smoke 10 miles away returning to the station in Walkertown. Two major incidents in this county in a day is pretty rare. Anyway, just thought you’d like to know. (There’s some pretty impressive fire pics on the sites as well.)

Ten four, I was looking at the photos earlier. Then there was another big commercial fire earlier yesterday, http://firenews.net/index.php/news/news_..
