Love Affair (1994)

Great old-fashioned love story remakes, well, a great, old-fashioned
love story. LOVE AFFAIR updates AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, with Warren
Beatty and Annette Bening replacing Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.
(Though Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne originated the roles in the
original LOVE AFFAIR in 1939.) Also along for the ride are Garry
Shandling, Kate Capshaw, Pierce Brosnan, and Katherine Hepburn (!).

Film is both a ton of fun *and* a welcome sign of sanity to the genre.
The cast is as solid as the story, which pokes some much-needed fun at
Beatty's own image. The filtered photography is a hazy pleasure; so is
the surprise of hearing Hepburn utter a word that wasn't spoken
on-screen in *her* day.

They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Grade: B+
