Pitch Black (2000)

  
PITCH BLACK is a better-than-expected "B"-movie that remakes ALIEN,
though this time on land.  The opening sequence-- the crash landing
of a commercial space vessel-- is arguably worth the price of admis-
sion *and* rates as the single best "hard landing" that this long-
time geek's ever seen.  Cool exteriors, too, using a combo of color
filters and overexposed film.  Regrettably, things get repetitive,
notably after the nasties come out...  With Vin Diesel, Radha Mit-
chell, Cole Hauser, Keith David, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, and Rhiana Grif-
fith.  David Twohy (THE ARRIVAL) both directs and co-wrote the
script.  (Rated "R"/107 min.)
