The new year has started tragically as this NBC 17 story reports. Oregon Hill Volunteer Fire Department member Paul Lewis Ellington, 36, died this morning while answering a call for a trailer fire, when his personal vehicle ran off the road. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. WFMY-TV also has details. The accident occurred on Crutchfield Road near Business 29 northeast of Reidsville.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ellington Family. Lets all PLEASE learn from this and drive careful and wear seatbelts, even in back of an Engine company. Be Safe.

The same thing I posted on The Watch Desk. No judgements on anyone, just my observations over the years.

“Several items in the news (local, state, and national) related to driving that have involved emergency services folks. This stuff is totally preventable- totally.

To my firefighting brethren out there- slow down. It is not your fault the world is combustible.

For my EMS brothers and sisters- slow down. Speed is not a medical treatment at anytime. If itís their time, then itís their time.

And for my law enforcing cousins out there- slow down. You canít catch the bad guys from the back of my ambulance.

Be safe. Be careful. Slow down. And buckle-up.
