04/25/09 91 W, 1 I - + 17 - 12 New Apparatus For Falls, New Hope

Falls Fire Department received a new pumper-tanker yesterday, a 2009 Pierce Contender, 1250/1000, that replaces Tanker 217, a 1989 Ford / E-One. Also yesterday, New Hope received their new Engine 1, a 2009 Pierce Contender, 1500/1000. It replaces a 1989 Mack/EEI. Both department's old apparatus are being sold. Lee Wilson has taken preliminary photos of both. Watch for other arriving apparatus in the county and city. Bay Leaf has an engine 252 coming. Raleigh has two Pierce aerial platforms pending, and a new Hackney USAR trailer that's here. More later.

Wondering why 2 stations that are supposedly on the chopping block are still receiving new apparatus? If the trucks are county-owned wouldn’t it have been wise to establish a county-wide paint scheme? Are all the county-owned trucks spec’d the same?

Which stations are you referring to as “on the chopping block?” While Falls is, and that fact is known to all, until they close, they needed this new tanker to help serve the citizens. When or if they close, the county will absorb the apparatus and place it where it can be used. If you mean New Hope, their station 2 covers a rural district… and Bay Leaf has the same type of rural district…

That is a nice looking rig.

Yeah… the Falls guys did a nice job spec’ing it out… nice lines and a good color scheme.

Is New Hope E1 the last remaining CF600 in-service in the County?

Negative, Knightdale still operates one of Raleigh’s old Mack CF pumpers.
