Today's an appropriate day to discuss office space for fire and police in the Capitol City. Where were the offices of the Raleigh Fire Department before their present location on Martin Street? Let's take a trip back in time, as Mr. Blogger dones his Historian hat. Here's what we've found so far, and including the station locations of Battalion Chiefs.

Fire Chief / Fire Administration Asst. Chief of Operations

* Asst. Chief of Operations position created in 1971.

Fire Marshal / Asst. Chief of Fire Prevention

*Fire Prevention Bureau created in 1949. Housed at Station 1, both Salisbury and Dawson street locations. Fire Marshall / Asst. Chief of Fire Prevention position created in 1971.

Asst. Chief of Services*

* Asst. Chief of Services position created in 1971.

Asst. Chief of Training

*Asst. Chief of Training position created in 2007. Prior training chiefs and leaders located at Keeter Training Center since its construction in 1982. Earlier office locations TBD.

Battalion Chief/Division Chief*

*Position renamed Division Chief in 2004.

District Chief/Battalion Chief*

Downtown / West

North / West North East *Position renamed Battalion Chief in 2004.
