04/03/10 79 W, 1 I - + 7 - 7 Fire Station For Sale

Here's a familiar building that's for sale. For decades same served the Yrac Fire Department, and most recently was operated as Western Wake Station 2. Comes with vast amount of concrete parking, an outside storage building, and a new roof. Plus more good memories than any place ought to have. Priced to move at $310,000. Next question... who gets the siren still up on the pole? View the sale listing.

does the old western wake apparatus that a private collector owns and was storing there, also come with the building?

I say put the siren up at WW St 1, bring a bit of the old life and memories from station 2 to the main station. Just a thought

charlie, which piece would that be? the only rig in the house is P293, which will be sold in the near future but is still owned by the department. P297 was sold last year to Trap VFD, P196, R295 and B299 were moved to WW1 when WW2 was closed.

It would be awesome to put up the siren at WW1, on the antenna maybe!

The new county contract says pagers are allowed but no sirens or some language to that effect. Not sure of actual wording
Apex Batt Chief - 04/03/10 - 19:39

Apex BC, is that the current contract or the one that is been worked on now?
Contractor - 04/03/10 - 20:21

That’s the revised contract that’s being worked on. “W. EMERGENCY ALERTING: The Fire Department agrees to rely only on the
countywide alphanumeric and tone/voice paging systems for emergency alerting and response purposes.”

Charlie, The private collector I think you are refering to is Dust. As shev said, it’s waiting to be sold. You want it?
Fire Cat - 04/04/10 - 01:33

P293 is priced to sell! But isn’t everything? It’s a sad time for us indeed. Even though I’ve only been with the department for going on five years, I miss going up there for lunch with the crew and meeting/training nights there. i know there are guys like Shevais and Matt Rehl that started when it was YRAC and have a lot of memories there that will thankfully never die. Traditions are set fast in the fire service, as is change. We don’t have to like it, but it happens to the best of us.

Actually Capt Gibbons has been a member of the department longer then Capt Rehl and has many more memories that thankfully will never die. If you are looking for old time members please refer to our good buddies Kermit Murph and Bona as they are the only active YRAC member still on Western Wake. And dont forget the lifetime firefighter of the quarter COUCH!!! And to the best of my recollection, Rehl and Shevais both started with volunteer responses to Station 1 in Raleigh… just an fyi for ya good buddy… Oh btw how much is 293 going for?
Ice Pop x 12 an hour - 04/07/10 - 09:40

Mr. Ice Pop speaks the truth, I was the last member to be voted onto Fairgrounds FD. The only active YRAC members are as above. Both Capt. Gibbons and Capt. Rehl were brought on after the merger. I did however split my volly responses between the two, and spent a lot of time at both. It will be a sad day when this house is finally gone.

the station was sold to a private party a couple years ago and is no longer of any association with the department, although many, many memories remain!
