Time penalties were assessed for technique and safety infractions.

The teams finished in the following order:

  3. Greensboro (RRT 5)
  4. High Point
Williamston (RRT 1)/Asheville (RRT 6) (tie)

  6. Raleigh (RRT 4)

There were two notable firsts:

For finishing first, the Wilmington team received four scholarships to a HazMat Specialist Class at TTCI in Pueblo, CO. Their names will also be added to a plaque listing the previous first place winners. They'll keep the plaque at their department until the next challenge. CSX Transportation also donated one scholarship to TTCI, that was awarded as a drawing from all challenge participants. It was won by a member of the Wilmington team.

Following the event, all competitors and attendees enjoyed a hazard-free lunch sponsored by Smiths Detection. Sponsors of the challenge also included HEPACO and RAE Systems.

The planners extend a special thanks to the Raleigh Fire Department for assisting with course set-up and rehab. Mr. Blogger thanks Glenn Clapp for the above information. See photos from the event.
