11/06/10 129 W, 1 I - + 9 - 1 Cary Station 8

Some details have emerged on Cary's planned Fire Station 8, to be located at 408 Mills Park Drive on the western side of town. The schedule, as noted on this town web page, shows the project current in design phase. Constructed in planned for fall 2011, with completion in fall 2012. The two-story (!) station will have three apparatus bays, measure 13,700 square-feet, and include a 1,160 square-foot satellite police station.

The facility is also planned as a "green build" pilot project, details of which are noted in draft minutes from the town's Environmental Advisory Board on May 11 and June 1. Looks like the designer is ADW Architects, a Charlotte firm that has designed fire stations for the Queen City. No drawings or pictures of Cary's new fire station are found... yet.

Seeing the elevations and the floorplans just the other day it is going to be a vast departure from current firehouses in Cary. 2 story, and thus…. 2 poles. Also horizontal opening bi-fold bay doors verus traditional overhead doors, I believe a first in Wake County?

Dayroom/kitchen and all meeting spaces, lobby and offices on floor 1, dorm, workout room and locker room on floor 2.

Holy crap Cary is going back to the traditional style firehouse…What has happened down south since I left. Are they serious about Poles I deffinately didn’t see Cary as a Department to allow poles to be in use.

I assume there are plans for an elevator? If not, curious on how the design meets ADA approval?
RescueRanger - 11/06/10 - 22:13

yes there is an elevator in order to meet ADA. And yes 2 poles, one toward the front of the station and one toward the rear. Hopefully once the design is finalized there will be some images to post, but it’s a very traditional looking firehouse.
