In Chatham County, in 1997, the EMS station in the northern area of Chatham County was located in a skilled nursing facility off of Whippoorwill Rd. The upscale facility had just opened and it had just opened and did not have many patients. EMS was located on the bottom floor with no patients. We were allocated two rooms for sleeping and a small day room. That lasted for a few months, then the station was relocated to an apartment off of Mt Carmel Road across from Governor’s Club. Finally, that unit (FirstHealth of the Carolinas EMS #1771) was moved to the old North Chatham Fire Station on Farrington Point Road.
The Cary Area Rescue Squad once operated out of a house on North Academy Street for a short time until their facility on Medcon Dr was opened.

While I was a member of the Grifton VFD Station 43 in southern Pitt Co. ,back in 1999, we were flooded by Hurricane Floyd. We had close to 4ft of water in our station. After the water receeded, we had to relocate to a temporary location in the old Cox Trailers building north of town while our station was gutted and remodeled.
