03/29/09 80 W, 1 I - + 8 - 14 North Carolina Search & Rescue

From a reader, here's a WRAL story on a newly organized search and rescue organization. Called North Carolina Search & Rescue, they're an all-volunteer entity that utilizes resources ranging from cadavar dogs, to low-flying aircraft, to cell phone tracking. Their members include former law enforcement, ex-military, and Coast Guard personnel. They're presently working on a missing person case in... Australia. Read the article, or visit their under-construction web site, www.ncrescue.org. Neat patch, too!

Any idea where this group is based out of ??

Looks like they’re based out of Hillsborough. The above web site’s training calendar lists Hillsborough and Orange County locations. And state corporation records list a same-named entity with an initial office address of Hillsborough.

I believe they are based out of Franklinton Area

Yes Hillsborough is correct, this is a spin off of the troubled Orange County Rescue Squad. View the comments on the WRAL story and you will see they are by the ex-chief of the Orange County Rescue Squad.

It looks like this group will be a good resource; with their capabilities. I know we will be using them within the state.

How does one become a member of an organization like this one?
