08/13/10 69 W, 1 I - + 8 - 5 Another Reserve Ambulance

Been seeing what's seemingly a Holly Springs EMS unit around town lately? That's actually a reserve Wake County EMS ambulance, currently on loan from the town of Holly Springs. It's presently part of the reserve fleet, and hasn't been re-lettered yet. Hadn't seen this truck before, period? Join the club. Guess more regular visits to the south are needed.

Hey, Mike, come on down to the south side! There’s been a lot of changes. We have electricity now, paved streets, and the mail runs 7 days a week now.

sharp looking ambulance to me.

Wow, DJ, how did y’all pull the mail trick off? Our mail on the east side of the county only runs 6 days a week!

Typo-ese on my part. It is six days a week. But we have gotten rid of the central operator and we can dial direct now on the telly-phone…

I’ve only seen that ambulance downtown when there were concerts at the amphitheater. I assumed it was some sort of special assignment of “off duty” work, like the Garner Heavy Rescue and Medical Transport folks. Of course, seeing ANY ambulance far away from it’s home base isn’t a surprise these days. I just assume they went by WakeMed, and AVL caught them as the closest unit to the next call.

It’s a regular member of the Wake County fleet. It’s taken a little bit of waiting in line to get the re-branding done (our guy has about 50 WCSO cars to do, and has been working on the new DC-2 and DC-3 vehicles). Meanwhile, the troops are getting to test drive the Chevy 4500 chassis, which will be on the next 11 (count ‘em, eleven!) ambulances to arrive. ETA October, now on the line at McCoy Miller. Early reviews are that this new Chevy chassis will be much favored over the (horrible) 6.0L Ford E-450 chassis.

Thanks for the update, Chief!

I believe there’s a fleet photo in Lee or my near future…

How about when our 11 new trucks arrive? And the 2 new DC vehicles?
