04/06/11 413 W - + 1 - 1 Agencies No Longer With Us

Recently wearing my now-vintage Garner EMS & Rescue Squad tee-shirt got me thinking. How many fire, rescue, EMS, and ambulance agencies have come and gone in Wake County? Here's take one of such a list, with lots of help from the state's corporate records web sites. Quite a few rural fire departments in towns that since merged them with their municipal departments. A number of since-merged EMS agencies as well. Only one ambulance company listed, when there were probably others.

Cary Area Rescue Squad, Rescue moved to Cary Fire Department in 1996 or 1997 and Cary Area Rescue Squad became Cary Area EMS.

Same with Six Forks Rescue Squad. Rescue moved to fire, they became Six Forks EMS. Not sure of the timeline.

Does anyone know what the outcome of the missing drugs investigation at Apex EMS? Was this an issue for a merger dicussion?

All employees cleared by investigation. Unknown if it was an issue for merger discussions.
