05/14/11 42 W, 1 I - + 8 - 4 District 4

This is a vehicle that District 4 is operating, since Siix Forks EMS ceased operation on May 3. The Wake County EMS Dodge Durango SUV replaced the Six Forks EMS Dodge Ram pick-up with camper shell.

So now that some of the dust has settled a little, how many Six Forks employees/volunteers have landed with Wake EMS?
Or is it still to early to know for sure how many people the County took on?

Who is staffing DC4 now? Did the Six Forks DC’s transfer over as County DC’s?
Curious - 05/15/11 - 17:34

Can’t give you a number, but it is a bunch, and growing every day. Many are in various stages of “on-boarding” – I9 documentation, background checks, all that stuff.

Several of the guys who were DCs at Six Forks are now DCs with the county.

Same can be said of the pending transfer from Apex. WCEMS has been a class act on their end.

Not everyone was so lucky, I’m not sure how many, if any, others got stuck, but I’m one of the orphaned. I had just gotten my schedule ironed out to get back on a truck with better regularity, but I never saw this coming. I had two good months in the last six, and was sitting down to work out a May schedule on the 5th.

I’ve been told that those that didn’t meet the standard to transfer can reapply for the next open academy… whenever the county is off its hiring freeze I guess. Then if I really want to stay with EMS I will have to quit the job that supports my family so I can take the academy, to start over learning about the system I’ve already been a part of at SFEMS. I’d volunteer if they had the mechanism in place. It’s frustrating, I had a lot of hope when I went through that orientation, and then to be just dropped. I’m not sure what to do next, I’m not even sure what will happen to all of my CMEs.

For my friends and former colleagues that depended on SFEMS for their living, I’m relieved that things have gone this well for you. I wish you all the best, and good luck! And DJ, I will never forget that long hike in the woods last year!

That was a long hike. And the moral of that story is always be nice to your patient. You never know which hospital’s CEO that their child is the administrative assistant for!
DJ - 05/16/11 - 16:56

Think I know that story, too!
Legeros - 05/16/11 - 17:01

Anyone know if that Ram is going to be up for auction???
Silver - 05/16/11 - 20:59

There are two of them. One is a base model, the other upgraded. DC4 usually ran the base model, but for a while the upgraded unit (usually 1200) was used. The difference in driving and riding was night and day! The upgraded one has the aluminum wheels and cloth seats.
DJ - 05/16/11 - 22:05

Definitely the upgraded one, nice truck….they going up for auction?
Silver - 05/16/11 - 22:16

I haven’t heard. I would think so, one or both.
