The 1917 LaFrance is actually the 1920 you have listed. At some point in time, the City needed a date for title purposes, and someone thought it was about a 1917. It was ordered in 1919 and delivered in 1920. The 1920 and 1923 were restored by FFD LT Jackie Lee and a gentleman from the Raleigh area (my mind is drawing a blank- you probably knew him). LT Lee has the ’23 at his home in Wade, NC.

Thanks Jason. That explains the contradictory dates that I saw in records. The person who helped Jackie with the restoration was retired USAF Col. Bob Biggs. He restored Raleigh’s 1926 ALF, along with a couple other Raleigh FFs. He also bought and restored Chapel Hill’s 1921 ALF. Here’s some of that tale: http://tinyurl.com/mm5sn86
