01/09/08 36 W, 1 I - + 15 - 8 Old Darley Ad on eBay

From a reader, here's an old magazine ad for Darley for sale on eBay. It shows pics of pumpers for Knightdale, Youngsville, and Archer Lodge, among others. Click to slightly enlarge:

Now that is old!

Wonder what they ended up doing with that truck?

The last time I was around there Morrisville still had their Darley of similar vinatge (one of 3 they eventually bought) in modified form. I think Archer Lodge still has theirs. Durham Highway also had one of the same vintage, very similar to the Morrisville unit.

Their were a lot of them around NC from the same era. They were good, dependable units. The Darley pump, in my experience, was one of the best- pumped a many a gallon of water through a Darley.

While out doing pre-plans today, came across an old fire truck on the side of the road. As we are riding by, I yelled at my driver to stop the truck. I am in total shock of what I have seen. It is the above truck in the picture. Youngsville Fire Department! I made a few phone calls and it appears that one of the members had seen it a couple of months ago and called about purchasing it. From what I have been told, it is not for sale. However, there is interest there, and maybe, it will be back at YFD before too long? I took some pictures and will be sending them to Mike on Tuesday.

It would be interesting to see where a lot of the fire trucks from the 60s and 70s wound up. I know the Ford/ALF that Apex had was totaled, but what about DHFD #1, Yrac #1, the K-dale truck pictured in the ad, and others. Anyone got any ideas?
