Since we're talking fire apparatus, and since this blogger is a historian, let's look back and ponder a question. What brands of fire apparatus have been used in Raleigh and Wake County since the beginning? Meaning, engines, aerials, service ladders, rescue trucks, haz-mat rigs, or specialty pieces. Raleigh is reasonably easy, especially if drawn from this Apparatus Register web site.

Wake County, including all towns and the airport, is a different challenge. This master apparatus list dated 2004 is a good place to start. Readers can add additional information. That is, if inclined.

Chevrolet/ Ansul. CT-1 (1957 Chev p/u w/ Ansul skid load unit) at RDU up until 1979. Chevrolet/Reading/Ansul from 1979 to late 80s/early 90s at RDU. I drove both of them.

How about homemade! New Hope Tanker 9 was built by the Department. (Off road tanker with International Chassis) High ground clearance, 250gpm pump. It follows the brush truck in if necessary.

Surely somebody, somewhere had an Oren. Didn’t they?
