07/23/09 67 W, 1 I - + 9 - 11 Cherry Point Crash Truck

Found for sale on eBay, here's a 1979 postcard photo of an MB-1 crash truck from the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point. The truck was made by Walter, a brand known well in Raleigh-Durham. The airport operated four Walter crash trucks, beginning with a Class 1500 in 1959. See some pictures, though Walter is incorrectly listed as Walters. Need to fix that.

Yes this is a Yankee Walter MB-1. In fact I was the Crew Chief of this beauty from 1978-80 and I am fairly certain that is me standing to right of of my beloved, “Cherry 11”. If memory serves me correctly this picture was taken in the area of the (Fire) Training Pits. A lot of great hours spent in that truck and a lot of great memories with great Marines. When I was discharged in 1980 I turned her over to one of my Crew Members, Cpl. Brad Mix who became the new Crew Chief and flipped it a month later. Something I had come close to doing myself. Haha. She was a great old Truck!
Cpl. S. Newsome. Crash Crew, USMC.
