This News & Observer article reports that the Raleigh City Council yesterday approved $2.9 million for design and pre-construction costs for the Clarence E. Lightner Public Safety Center. The 17-story structure will replace the current police department headquarters on the northwest corner of Hargett and McDowell Streets, and house the police, fire, emergency communications, and information technology departments.
