07/06/10 76 W - + 8 - 5 Car Fire, Gas Pump, Dash Cam

Here's your video for the morning, found by Statter911 of a fully-involved gas pump and automobile in Quiet Dell, VA. The first arriving engine had their dash cam rolling and it captures the response (with a couple edits), the heavy smoke on approach, and arrival and extinguishment. The video concludes with a couple of still images. Plus, of course, a pun from Dave in his Quick Takes headline.

Holy SH^T he busted that red light at the interstate bridge! Never checked up…

PD had the road blocked on the left, no road to the right it seems. I love the member (more than likely a Chief) walking around in his denim shorts and FD t-shirt (although he did have his trusty radio). That must be the new summer line of PPE NC State has developed. TEACH BY EXAMPLE!!!

Smart of the engineer to get foam going right away. They did a good job of knocking it down and then extinguishment. I like how the officer said “Let’s do it right, guys!”.

Here’s a comment that I posted on Statter’s site, about this clip. Or, really, about the comments about the real or perceived speed of the engine in the clip:

I’d like to see a dash-cam clip on a roadway, with speeds at incremental levels, as a level-test for people who watch footage and attempt to guess the speed being traveled. You could make a series of clips. Apparatus driving 10 MPH. Apparatus driving 20 MPH. etc. Maybe such a thing’s already been made.

Back to regular programming…

yeah, I saw the police car, and I have seen the idiots who didnt see the police car about 10 inches from my bumper. Just sayin. PD blocks quite a bit for us- since they go on most calls with us, and maybe we’re just creating more of an opportunity to see the idiots ignore the popo. They say the only thing more dangerous than an emergency vehicle in an intersection is 2 emergency vehicles in an intersection

Regarding traffic, two things jump out at me ..
#1, the idiot at 0:45 who gets out of the way for the police car, but obviously doesn’t check his mirror and pulls out in front of the fire truck
#2, at 1:35 in, i can see why the patrol car is blocking traffic from getting to the scene, but it would have been kind of nice for them to at least make an effort to get out of the way for the fire truck, instead of making it move onto the verge
