06/12/11 115 W, 2 I - + 7 - 1 Kernersville Fatal Apparatus Accident
WGHP is reporting that Kernersville Engine 41 was involved in a fatal vehicle accident early this afternoon. The engine was responding to a call with lights and sirens activated when an automobile reportedly pulled out from a parking lot and into the path of the apparatus. The 80-year-old driver was killed, and a passenger in the car was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The firefighters were also injured, and treated for minor injuries at Kernersville Medical Center. I know that it isn’t really in your area; but there’s a currently-burning two-alarm wharehouse/buisness fire that earlier shut down Hwy 52 (the main N/S highway through Winston-Salem.) It’s on the same news websites that you got the Kernersville story from. I could see the smoke 10 miles away returning to the station in Walkertown. Two major incidents in this county in a day is pretty rare. Anyway, just thought you’d like to know. (There’s some pretty impressive fire pics on the sites as well.)
