07/05/14 90 W, 2 I - + 2 - 2 Wilson Fire Department Special Operations Squad

Found this colorful rig while viewing Lee Wilson's album of Wilson fire apparatus. He shot same at Station 4 on January 18, 2012. Our favorite apparatus photographer was in town yesterday, and posted pictures of Wilson's new ladder and other rigs. What's the make, model, and purpose of this truck? We'll look to readers to tell. From Lee's photos, looks like a box truck was also stationed there, perhaps supplementary equipment to the squad? Let's hear from our friends to the east!

If my memory serves me correctly the Special Ops Squad 4 is part of a unified command set up to pull a command trailer. The dept. also has an arson task force team with the police dept. The large box truck has an air compressor system. I believe it was bought by the Wilson Co. FF’s Association and the City FD operates it and as such was allowed to letter it as part of their fleet (or that was done because the City took responsibility for it). I’ll try to reach out to get more accurate info.

To the best of my knowledge Squad 4 was for a joint operation with City and County PD and FD. mostly for us with the City PD and FD. it was pulling a unified command center purchased by multiply agencies. I Could be wrong but some of this seems right from what I remember. The pull behind command center that is rather nice used to be stationed at Station 1 on Hines Street not sure if it is anymore
